Protest the roundups and detentions
People will be at the INS offices in San Francisco every day of the week to declare opposition to this special registration program with their presence at the INS offices in San Francisco. The week will culminate with a large press conference and rally on Friday, January 10th at 1pm in front of the INS offices, to protest events that have been all too reminiscent of the World War II era which led to the historically unjust incarceration of Japanese and Japanese Americans whose only crime was their ancestry. Stop the War Against Iraq
National Marches in Washington and San Francisco
Honor the life and struggle of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Tens of thousands will march together!! Assemble at 11am (location TBA). The march begins from Embarcadero and Market Streets (San Francisco) at 11:00 a.m. with the destination being a 1pm rally at the Civic Center. March assembly point to be announced. If we all work together to build a major movement for peace and justice we can overcome the war makers. We must not allow Dr. King turned into a harmless icon by an Administrtion which stands in direct contridiction to every principal and ideal that he lived and died for.
On January 18, tens of thousands will march together and meet together in a Peace Congress. That is the right way to celebrate the life of Dr. King--to intensify the struggle for peace and justice, at home and abroad.

Scott Ritter's documentary "In Shifting Sands"
If you missed seeing this at the Roxie Theater in San Francisco, here is another chance to see it. This is a feature-length documentary about the disarming of Iraq. It looks at the complex issues surrounding the interplay between the United States, the United Nations, and Iraq in regard to Iraq's obligation to be disarmed of its weapons of mass destruction. "IN SHIFTING SANDS "is written and directed by former UNSCOM inspector Scott Ritter. Ritter, who has been branded a traitor by the mainstream media and the Bush Administration, brings his first-hand insights and experiences in the telling of this complex story. Iraq's weapons of mass destruction have been at the forefront of international attention since the end of Operation Desert Storm in 1991. A program of arms inspection was implemented under UN Security Council resolution mandate requiring the removal, destruction or rendering harmless of Iraq's lethal arsenal in April, 1991. The lifting of a stringent economic embargo was linked to Iraq's compliance with its obligation to be disarmed. Later the status of Iraq's weapons remains uncertain. As UN weapons inspectors begin working again in Iraq, and the economic embargo remains in place, this is an important film to see. How has this turn of events come to pass? And who is responsible?

"IN SHIFTING SANDS "provides the full story, told here for the first time through interviews with: ROLF EKEUS (the first Chief of the UN weapons inspectors), TARIQ AZIZ (Deputy Prime Minister of Iraq) as well as numerous other former weapons inspectors and Iraqi officials. The result is a balanced, objective accounting of the work of the UN inspectors.
