What's New? Oyez, oyez! Read all about it! This Webpage was created to accomodate all the alerts and urgent action notices I receive from a number of peace and social justice sources, and to make them accessible to more people. Where the source is connected to an organization, such as EPI/CALC, GNIB or SOAW-W, I will indicate it by placing their logo as a link to their respective Websites.

Pass it on!

Iraq: Cick on: Phyllis Bennis -- A Voice of Reason from the Senate Against Invading Iraq. Phyllis Bennis is a Fellow of the Institute for Policy Studies in Washington D.C. who was not called to testify at the Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on Iraq (July 31-August 1 2002). However, Senator Paul Wellstone did introduce her written statement as part of the official record of the hearing.

"Phyllis Tenney, who sent me this message, is a Church of the Brethren member who spent several weeks in the Gaza Strip with Christian Peacemaker Teams before they opened the Hebron project.  (Some of you will remember her as Phyllis Butt.) My computer is acting up right now, so I haven't been able to look at the photos myself, but I've decided to send them on to you in case you can make use of them.  Esther"

           Dear friends,

Attached is a Unity Statement on Corporate Accountability that we and other organizations are circulating for organizational endorsement.

After the World Social Forum in Porto Alegre, a number of grassroots and policy organizations met to discuss ways to leverage the "Enron moment" to further a broader agenda of corporate accountability.  We know that many organizations are working around various reforms related to Enron, and wanted to make the whole of these efforts greater than the sum of the parts. In order to accomplish this, we have drafted a Unity Platform that encompasses, as succinctly as possible, the changes in corporate governance and structure that many groups, in the US and around the world, are working on related to Enron, future Enrons, and corporate governance in general.
