“War will exist until that distant day when the conscientious objector enjoys the same reputation and prestige that the warrior does today.”
– John Fitzgerald Kennedy [Source]

The PACIFIST NATION Website
is dedicated to the memory of
my father, Abraham Zwickel.

His spirit lives in these pages.

On August 26, 2005, my mother, Jean, joined my father in the
      Great Adventure.  Her spirit is
      here, as well.

My new CD, "Metanoia - a Universalist Mass, is finally out!  Check it out:

This is the New Pacifist Nation.  I am seriously overhauling it.  The directory is chock-full of various and sundry writings, and they will have an "archive" in which to reside, should anyone be curious.

However,  I intend to simplify the 'site somewhat, leave out a great deal of extraneous material and concentrate on writings and such that are specific to pacifism.

So, to start things out, I'll begin with a few links, and take it from there.

Above I link to my folks' memorial Websites.  Lest my brother feel left out, and as I loved him dearly, here's David's Memorial Website.

    In My Own Words:
          The Rant
          What is Pacifist Nation?
Bloody Tuesday (written September 11, 2001)
What's pacificm if you don't belive in God?
          Here's a modest thesis.
I sent a letter to Joe Leiberman a few years back, and CCed it to all my representatives.  Given his Republicanization, I find myself choking on my words, but it's interesting in retrospect.  Gawd, were we that hopeful?  Here's my "Dear Joe."

Here are some folks and organizations you should know about:
My friend, David Hartsough on the Global Nonviolent Peace Force, "Marching in Gandhi's Footsteps."
Do you know about Peace Pilgrim?
So you think all Muslims are evil?  How about a 100,000-strong pacifist army of Pushtun?  Read about the "Frontier Gandhi."
          A must-read is Twain's "War Prayer."

Finally, here are what I consider the Big Four pacifist organizations - certainly among the most venerable, plus a the realization of a dream of mine, the GNPF:
          American Friend's Service Committee (AFSC)

          Fellowship of Reconciliation (FOR)
          Global Nonviolent Peace Force (GNPF)
          War Resisters League (WRL)
Women's International League For Peace & Freedom (WILPF)

(More shall be revealed in the fullness of time.)

Meanwhile, live justly, with compassion,
and in health,

According to Author, Schlesinger's – A Thousand Days, Page 87-88.

“John F. Kennedy went to San Francisco in June of 1945 as a special writer for the Hearst press to watch the founding of the United Nations.  For a young veteran, with stabbing memories of violence and death, it was in a way a disenchanting experience.  But for a student of politics it was an indispensable education.
“ ‘It would be very easy to write a letter to you that was angry,’ he observed afterward to a PT-boat friend who had sought his opinion of the conference... ‘The international relinquishing of sovereignty would have to spring from the people – it would have to be so strong that the elected delegates would be turned out of office if they failed to do it....  We must face the truth that the people have not been horrified by war to a sufficient extent to force them to go to any extent rather than have another war....  War will exist until that distant day when the conscientious objector enjoys the same reputation and prestige that the warrior does today.’ ”
