- Subject: Veterans return medals in protest for bombings in
Vieques
Date: Thu, 01 Jun 2000 13:22:54 -0700
From: Claudia K White
May 24, 2000-Puerto Rican war veterans have decided to return to President Clinton the
medals and decorations they once received for defending the United
States, in protest for Clinton's decision to authorize bombing to resume
in Vieques and in support of the demands that the U.S. Navy permanently
stop bombing Vieques.
ON a personal note, my mother, Jean Zwickel, has spent over fifty years trying to convince people within
the religious and peace and justice communities of the importance of an end to US colonialism
in Puerto Rico (and Vieques.) And now an amazing amount of action is converging on Vieques. May it bear fruit!

- Subject: Asking for wisdom from Dr. Laura
Date: Sunday, May 28, 2000 8:05 PM
From: JimS511@aol.com
This comes to us via Carolyn's husband, clarinetist Anthony Scarr. Thanks, Tony!
Dear Dr. Laura,
Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have
learned a great deal from you, and I try to share that knowledge with as
many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle,
for example, I simply remind him that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be
an abomination. End of debate. I do need some advice from you, however,
regarding some of the specific laws and how to best follow them.
a.. When I
burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor
for the Lord (Lev. 1:9). The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor
is not pleasing to them. How should I deal with this?
b.. I would
like to sell my daughter into slavery, as it suggests in Exodus 21:7.
In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for
her?
c.. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her
period of menstrual uncleanliness (Lev. 15:19-24). The problem is, how do
I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.
d.. Lev. 25:44 states that I may buy slaves from the nations that are
around us. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not
Canadians. Can you clarify?
e.. I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2
clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill
him myself?
f.. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an
Abomination (Lev. 10:10), it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I
don't agree. Can you settle this?
g.. Lev. 20:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a
defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my
vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?
I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you
can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and
unchanging.

Date: Thu, 18 May 2000 22:24:45 -0700
From: Raulmax@aol.com
"We have just received news that the police of Puerto Rico has arrested
Vieques Committe chairmen Robert Rabin. Rabin was leaving Committee
headquarters in his jeep when he saw a Navy Convoy leaving Camp Garcia. He
tryed to back up the jeep so he might see better what was happening. A
Puerto Rican police man stoped him and grabbed him by the arm. He was
pulled
out of the jeep by four Puerto Rican police officers and beaten with night
sticks. He is not being held at police headquarters in Isabel Segunda. We
think that he is being held inside Camp Garcia at a makeshift jail."
This is just the first report I received regarding my friend, Bob Rabin's brutal arrest. Keep him
and his wife, Nilda, in your thoughts and prayers. Please check the "Vieques Libre" for the latest
reports.

Dear friends,
Please take the time to call your senator and ask them to work AGAINST the
Ashcroft ammendment. Details below. Basically some children with a mental
illness will sometimes act in ways that require them to be in special
education settings. The ammendment will lift the obligation from the school
district to provide for the special education of children whose illness
sometimes leads them to violent behavior. And if school districts aren't
required to provide services, they won't.
