Good Friday, April 18, 2003, 6:45 a.m.
Vasco & Patterson Pass Road, Livermore
(you can download a flyer, Full-page or a Half-page (2-up) in PDF format)
For more than twenty years, people of faith and others concerned about nuclear weapons have gathered on Good Friday for prayer and witness outside the Livermore Nuclear Weapons Laboratory.
Father Bill O'Donnell, a faithful participant of the Good Friday events for many years, will speak. He has recently been released from federal prison where he spent six months for his opposition to the School of the Americas where terrorists are trained to operate in Latin America.
By the time you read this, the United States may already have launched a massive assault on the people of Iraq. Even if it has not, the danger of a major war will still remain very high and nuclear war will continue to be a threat. Since their inception, nuclear weapons have been the trump card in the U.S. military deck and their threatened use has played a part in numerous conflicts.
Please join us this Good Friday, April 18, at the corner of Vasco Road and Patterson Pass Road. We will gather at 6:45 a.m. for a service at 7:00, followed by a procession to the gates and the opportunity for nonviolent civil disobedience.
Following the action there will be a community gathering from 10 a.m. to noon at 5720 East Avenue, Livermore. Here we will share information on a variety of issues. Light refreshments will be provided.
DIRECTIONS: take highway 580 to Livermore. Exit on Vasco Road, south. From the Bay Area this means you turn right at the foot of the offramp. Continue on Vasco until you get to Patterson Pass Road. (This is before East Ave.) There is a signal. Turn left and you will see us.YOUR FINANCIAL HELP IS WELCOME. In fact it is needed. Inter alia, we have to rent a stage, a portapotty, a generator for the sound system. We need to print out flyers and the order of worship. Please send a check made out to Ecumenical Peace Institute and mail it to us at Ecumenical Peace Institute, PO Box 9334, Berkeley, CA 94709. Whatever we have left over is used by EPI and
