June 19, Wednesday  "India Today: Challenges for the World's Most Populous Democracy"

Speakers:  Marsha Vande Berg, Ph.D., Editor, The World Report, and Karine Schomer, Ph.D., South Asia scholar, cross-cultural management consultant

      India's border tensions over Kashmir and internal religious strife have attracted global attention and concern. Join us for a conversation with two India experts as they focus on the politics, economy and culture of this complex country and its new relationships with Pakistan, the U.S. and China.
      Dr. Schomer is the author of a number of books on India.  She holds a Ph.D. in South Asian Languages and Civilization from the University of Chicago, has spent over 8 years in India, and is fluent in Hindi. Dr. Schomer is Founder (1997) and President of Change Management Consulting & Training LLC, focusing on cross-cultural adaptation in the U.S.-India business nexus.  She was formerly Dean of Golden Gate University, and her career included 10 years on the faculty of UC Berkeley.
      Dr. Vande Berg (Ph.D. Vanderbilt University) is an award-winning international journalist and columnist.  She is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations in New York and a Kiriyama Fellow of the University of San Francisco Center for the Pacific Rim.  Dr. Vande Berg is a principal of International Business Advisors, facilitating strategies for the international marketplace. She is widely published and frequently invited to lecture and moderate international programs.
